KIN 420 - Exercise Prescription


Units: 3
Assess and interpret exercise and fitness testing, including pre-exercise participation screening and assessments of cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, body composition, and flexibility. Assists with preparing for the ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist Certification.

Prerequisites: KIN 306 with grade C or better.
Equivalent Quarter Course: KIN 4610.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Discuss the importance of physical activity to the health and well-being of both healthy and selected, diseased populations,
  2. Use pre-exercise assessments and screening to guide exercise prescription and programming and, where appropriate, further exercise testing.
  3. Conduct assessments of cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, body composition, and flexibility in a professional manner,
  4. Interpret exercise test and fitness assessment results to develop a physical fitness prescription that is safe and effective and based on scientifically-validated training methods
