Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Understand the historical and contemporary perspectives on mental disorders.
- Understand the implications of the current classification and processing of mental disorders
- Describe clinical approaches, risk factors, diagnosis and treatment of major mental disorders.
- Outline a public health approach to study mental health conditions.
- Understand the organizational characteristics, financing and delivery of mental health services.
- Recognize the impact of race, ethnicity, culture, socioeconomic status, and other differences in mental health.
- Discuss the portrayal of mental health in coverage of violence in the media.
