MATH 230 - Calculus III


Units: 3
Vectors, dot and cross products; equations of lines, planes and surfaces; partial derivatives, directional derivatives and gradient vector; optimization and Lagrange multipliers; multiple integrals; vector fields; Stoke’s theorems; applications.

Prerequisites: MATH 131 with grade C- or better.
Equivalent Quarter Course: Students who have taken MATH 2304 AND MATH 2305 under a recent quarter catalog will receive credit for MATH 230.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Apply definitions, techniques and theorems to solve calculus problems in multiple variables.
  2. Find the mathematical formulation of word problems using calculus tools such as derivatives, integrals, and optimization.
  3. Use the calculus techniques to solve the problems in multi-variable calculus and its applications.
