KIN 424 - Exercise and Gerontology


Units: 3
Assess and define health issues common with age, understand the pathogenesis of diseases associated with age, and evaluate the benefits of physical activity and exercise to healthy aging.

Prerequisites: KIN 306 with a grade of C or better.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Discuss the physical, physiological and demographic characteristics of the older population.
  2. Discuss the importance of physical activity to health and well-being with age
  3. Develop guidelines for exercise that accommodate the diversity of the older population,
  4. Discuss and implement types of exercise programming for older adults,
  5. Become familiar with professional opportunities in the field of gerontology/geriatrics
