SW 631 - Advanced Psychosocial Assessment and Diagnosis Units: 4 Advanced study in psychosocial assessment and diagnosis of children, adolescents, and adults. Examination of person-in-environment and DSM-V diagnosis.
Prerequisites: M.S.W. major. Credit Restrictions: Master of Social Work students only. Equivalent Quarter Course: SW 6561. Possible Instructional Methods: Hybrid Only. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Critically analyze and apply concepts and theories related to assessment and treatment planning with diverse, urban, and stigmatized populations (PLOs: Diversity; Critical Thinking/Applying Theory to Practice).
- Demonstrate an understanding of assessment, treatment planning and person-centered care for children, youth, adults, and older adults with a mental health diagnosis (PLO: Critical Thinking/Applying Theory to Practice).
- Understand systems issues in the diagnosis of mental health disorders (PLO: Critical Thinking/Applying Theory to Practice).
- Understand the relationship between theories and treatment in formulating a comprehensive assessment linked to goals. (PLO: Critical Thinking/Applying Theory to Practice).
- Develop treatment goals and interventions that are congruent with cultural perspectives across diverse groups (PLO: Diversity).
- Demonstrate flexibility and uses an array of culturally sensitive and relevant clinical skills in teaching, advocacy, treatment, and case-management roles (PLO: Advocacy; Diversity).
- Demonstrate knowledge about specific cultural features that may be present in various disorders; culture-bound syndromes; cultural explanation of illness; help seeking behaviors in diverse populations, and appreciation for traditional ethnic and cultural healing practices (PLO: Diversity).
