BIOL 601A - Foundations of Scientific Research Units: 1 Foundations of Master’s level skills needed to complete a research thesis. Application of the scientific method in the context of thesis formulation, experimental design, and accessing/evaluating scientific literature. Involves critical review of sample thesis proposals and drafting original thesis proposal.
Prerequisites: M.S. Biological Science major. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Demonstrate understanding of the basic principles and practices of quantitative research methods, including formulating a testable hypothesis and experimental design.
- Apply skills in evaluating sample thesis proposals to the drafting of an original thesis proposal.
- Access and critically evaluate literature relevant to a selected research question.
