ART 343 - Video II


Units: 3
Production of intermediate to advanced video with emphasis on storytelling and creative communication. Analyze and apply cinematic aesthetic principles in assignments and projects.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: ART 327.
Prerequisites: ART 243.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Create original video projects for a variety of outputs while judiciously employing the formal elements and organizing principles of cinema art including, narrative, shot composition, editing, sound and special effects using digital cinema cameras and equipment and non-linear digital video editing applications and other relevant tools;
  2. Apply project development and pre-production skills to the creation of original video and/or video performance;
  3. Critically analyze their own work processes (camera operation, lighting, sound recording, sound design, editing, creative writing, scriptwriting, storyboarding), as well as examples of video from the larger media culture;
  4. Refine their own work based on critical feedback and self-evaluation;
  5. Demonstrate understanding of the role of film art, video art, and video installation and performance, have had within both historical and contemporary art practices and cultural contexts;
  6. Collaborate with peers in the development and execution of a film, video, installation, or performance.
