STAT 100 - Elements of Statistics and Probability Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-B4 Descriptive statistics (measures of central tendency, dispersion, correlation), elementary discrete probability distributions. Introduction to tests of statistical hypotheses. Use of computers. Must complete course with a grade of “C-” or better in order to earn General Education, Area B4, credit.
Co-requisites: STAT 100A required for students in Category III and IV. Credit Restrictions: Not open to students with credit for STAT 110 or STAT 303. Equivalent Quarter Course: STAT 1000. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: ABC/NC grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Upon completion students will have the following competencies covering quantitative literacy, numeracy skills and problem solving:
- Know formal statistical concepts and formulae, and find sources for key statistical ideas;
- manipulate and use theories; graphically display and interpret results, and perform basic statistical computations;
- apply statistical theory at an elementary level, identify problems, evaluate and discuss statistical measures and results.
B4. Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning Learning Outcomes - Demonstrate a proficient and fluent ability to reason quantitatively;
- demonstrate a general understanding of how practitioners and scholars collect and analyze data, build mathematical models, and/or solve quantitative problems; and
- apply quantitative reasoning skills in a variety of real-world contexts, defined by personal, civic, and/or professional responsibilities.
