ART 251 - Interaction and Experience Design Foundations


Units: 3
Principles, practices and design of interactions between people, objects, and systems.  Best practices for the application of interaction design principles and the tools and techniques to create and test meaningful and effective user interfaces and user experiences.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: ART 103 and ART 104.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Define and name the principles, practices and design that affect the design of interactions between people, objects, and systems;
  2. Explain how Interaction Design draws on contemporary understanding of cognitive science, history of design, history of human-computer interaction, and the history of machines to create meaningful experiences;
  3. Apply human-­centered process skills including user research (quantitative and qualitative), prototyping, brainstorming, and actionable knowledge synthesis in order to create innovative and effective user experiences;
  4. Critique and defend design decisions through effective presentations;
  5. Identify appropriate problems and create analytical, critical and creative responses individually and in collaboration.
