NURS 327 - Community Engagement II Units: 1 Seminar focused on delivering culturally inclusive, community-based health care and on disparities in chronic care and health care outcomes. Includes both in-class sessions and field experiences in community health facilities and facilities serving older adults. Note: The Diversity Overlay requirement is satisfied upon completion of the four-course series, NURS 317, NURS 327, NURS 417 and NURS 427.
Prerequisites: B.S. Nursing major and NURS 317. Co-requisites: NURS 320, NURS 322 and NURS 323. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: CR/NC grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Use concepts of community engagement and culturally inclusive, community based healthcare outcomes in their field experiences.
- Implement strategies to prevent chronic illness and promote health in the community
- Discuss issues contributing to disparities in healthcare outcomes and chronic illness for older adults in the community.
- Evaluate community field experiences using reflection
- Participate in community assessments with an emphasis on chronic illness management, resources, services, and barriers.
