NURS 322 - Aging in Health and Illness Units: 2 Explore theories of aging, health problems common in the aging individual, and knowledge and skill acquisition needed to care for these patients.
Prerequisites: All of: NURS 310, NURS 311, NURS 312, NURS 313, NURS 314, NURS 315, NURS 316, NURS 317. Co-requisites: NURS 320, NURS 321 and NURS 323. Credit Restrictions: Repeated course may not count toward Major requirements. Repeatability: May be repeated once for credit for a maximum of 4 units. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Describe the changing demographics of elders and the need for eldercare resources as related to social and political issues.
- Review and compare theories of aging.
- Identify the components of a comprehensive geriatric assessment.
- Describe the aging changes as they relate to each body system and how they apply to diseases common in elders.
- Identify and discuss psychosocial and cultural issues of elders.
- Define the effects aging changes have on pharmacokinetics/dynamics in elders and discuss issues of polypharmacology.
- Discuss issues related to elder abuse and safety.
- Use the nursing process to care for elders and their families.
