SOC 345 - American Society


Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-UD-D
Sociological perspective on important institutions and developments shaping life in American society today.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: Upper division status (greater than 60 earned semester units) and completion of lower division Area D1-3 requirements.
Prerequisites: Completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3 and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Effectively communicate and engage in educated, open-minded discussions about diverse important issues facing American society.
  2. Apply sociological perspectives about social inequalities, stigmatization, and structures of domination to important issues facing American society.
  3. Critically read and interpret sociological arguments and theories, and critically assess sociological research
