SOC 408 - Animals and Society


Units: 4
Introduction to the field of human-animal studies, studying the social meanings that shape the role and status of animals in society, as well as how constructions and treatment of animals shape human identity.

Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Different perspectives on the value and use of animals will be discussed (Maps to PLO2).
  2. Links between human oppression and animal suffering are emphasized throughout the course (Maps to PLO3).
  3. Students will learn the impact of human activity on the well-being of individual animals, animal species, and animal habitats (Maps to SLO5).
