SOC 478 - Sociology of Mega-Events Units: 4 Examines the history, organization and politics of mega-events. Explores the accomplishments, problems, and consequences of these events on the destinations that host them, placing particular emphasis upon on the social and cultural impacts.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- SLO 1: Describe the impact of the mega-events on examined societies;
- Analyze and evaluate the content and meaning of primary sources and, through critical interpretation, draw reasonable conclusions.
- SLO 2: Think and write critically on the criteria by which mega-events are deemed successful or unsuccessful.
- SLO 3: Understand the political environments of intergovernmental organizations such as the BIE (World’s Fair), FIFA (World Cup), and the IOC (Olympics).
