PSYC 382 - Child Psychopathology


Units: 4
Overview of the major psychiatric disorders affecting children and adolescents.  Emphasis is on diagnostic criteria; biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors; and treatment implications.

Prerequisites: PSYC 200.
Equivalent Quarter Course: PSYC 4440.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate familiarity with the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, and empirical findings in the area of abnormal child psychology
  2. Identify the diagnostic features of the major DSM-5 psychiatric disorders that affect children.
  3. Critically evaluate biological, psychological, and socio-cultural perspectives on abnormal child behavior.
  4. Show awareness of and sensitivity to the impact of abnormal child behavior on the individual and society.
