BIOL 315 - Marine Biology Units: 4 The general biology of marine organisms with emphasis on the ecology of local marine communities, including field methods. Exploration of diversity of marine life and how the sea affects humanity. Lecture Units: 2; Lab Units: 2
Prerequisites: BIOL 140B. Equivalent Quarter Course: BIOL 3215. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Apply various methods used by marine scientists;
- Predict the motion of the ocean and how it affects climate and habitat;
- Describe how marine organisms are adapted to biotic and abiotic properties of the sea and illustrate the physiological challenges put on marine organisms;
- Measure, categorize, and distinguish local marine organisms;
- Illustrate ecological relationships between organisms in different marine communities;
- Relate how humans both affect and are affected by the marine environment;
- Synthesize and communicate the biological significance of one marine taxon.
