Units:1 Laboratory providing connections between biology and other sciences with real-world applications. Focuses on the Next Gen Science Standards to prepare pre- and in-service teachers for the CSET General Science Subtest II (life science section) to obtain a Foundational Science Credential.
Strongly Recommended Preparation: BIOL 301 (concurrent or completion). Prerequisites: BIOL 100 or BIOL 101. Credit Restrictions: Not for Biology major or minor credit. Equivalent Quarter Course: BIOL 3012. Possible Instructional Methods:Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
Actively participate in hands-on, inquiry-based biology activities that reinforce understanding of core biological concepts;
Design a lesson plan addressing a student misconception in biology that incorporates a variety of science practices and assessment strategies aligned with NGSS and Common Core State Standards;
Effectively communicate a variety of biological concepts with scientific accuracy and the appropriate use of academic language;
Apply the norms of collaboration to engage in meaningful group discussions and collaborative work.
