CRJ 460 - Crime Theory


Units: 3
In-depth analysis of the theories of criminal behavior, examining major social, psychological and biological theories of crime causation. Examine historical origins of crime theories and current applications of criminological theories to contemporary crime issues and offender treatment and rehabilitation.

Equivalent Quarter Course: CRJA 4127.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Describe the various schools of criminological theory about crime causation;
  2. Apply crime theories to crime typologies, crime trends, and patters of criminal behavior;
  3. Examine the relationship between criminological theory and various crime prevention policies and practices;
  4. Analyze the implications of various crime theories and corresponding policies from race, class, and gender perspectives.
