CS 180 - Computers in Action


Units: 3
Introduction to computer applications and the role of computer technology in society. Introduction to word processing, spreadsheet applications, presentation software, basic database management, and website development.

Credit Restrictions: Not for computer science major or minor credit.
Equivalent Quarter Course: CS 1020.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Apply presentation software to effectively communicate ideas and perspectives;
  2. Demonstrate mastery of word processing applications;
  3. Utilize spreadsheet applications to creatively solve data problems;
  4. Implement fundamental database operations to develop and maintain a data warehouse;
  5. Employ current internet tools and techniques to design and develop novel websites;
  6. Critically analyze the role of computing in society.
