MUS 317 - Improvisation Techniques I Units: 1 Introduction to improvisation techniques for jazz musicians. Use of modes (major & melodic minor), symmetrical scales, and arpeggios in improvisation. Emphasis on the development of an idiomatic jazz style through the transcription and analysis of recorded solos by jazz masters.
Prerequisites: MUS 112, MUS 116. Equivalent Quarter Course: MUS 3037. Repeatability: May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 2 units. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
