MUS 317A - Improvisation Techniques I Units: 3 Introduction to improvisation techniques for jazz instrumentalists. Use of modes (major & melodic minor), symmetrical scales, and arpeggios in improvisation. Emphasis on the development of an idiomatic jazz style through the transcription and analysis of recorded solos by jazz masters.
Prerequisites: MUS 112. Equivalent Quarter Course: MUS 3037. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only.
