American Sign Language Minor

Minor Requirements (15-27 units)

Students may be exempt from lower division courses and may challenge elementary and intermediate courses by exam. Students who test out of all of the lower division courses will be required to take additional upper division elective courses to meet the 15 unit minimum for the minor.

Lower Division Core

The lower-division core consists of 0-16 units. Students who are not exempt must take four (4) of the following courses for 16 units:

MLL 131 - Elementary American Sign Language I Units: 4 ; G.E./G.R. Area: C2
MLL 132 - Elementary American Sign Language II Units: 4 ; G.E./G.R. Area: C1
MLL 231 - Intermediate American Sign Language I Units: 4 ; G.E./G.R. Area: C2
MLL 232 - Intermediate American Sign Language II Units: 4 ; G.E./G.R. Area: D1-3

Upper Division Core

All ASL minor students must take the two (2) advanced language courses for 8 units:

MLL 331 - Advanced American Sign Language I Units: 4
MLL 332 - Advanced American Sign Language II Units: 4

Upper Division Elective(s)

All ASL minor students must choose at least one (1) course for 3 units. Students who test out of all the lower division courses are required to take a total of three (3) elective courses for 9 units.
