SLHS 204 - Introduction to Communication Disorders


Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-D1-2
An introductory course surveying a variety of pediatric and adult communication disorders and the biological foundations of typical communication. Designed for students interested in learning about the issues affecting individuals with disorders of speech, language, hearing, cognition, and swallowing. 

Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Describe the biological and psychological components and processes underlying communication.
  2. Describe the development of communication across the lifespan.
  3. Describe the different types of pediatric and adult communication disorders.
  4. Describe the common forms of assessment and treatment for a variety of communication disorders.
