ES 323 - Latinx and Latin American Film


Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-UD-C; Social Justice
An exploration of Latinx and Latin American film with a focus on transnational identities and cultures, im/migration, political resistance, and gender relations. 

Strongly Recommended Preparation: Upper division status (greater than 60 earned semester units) and completion of lower division Area C requirements.
Prerequisites: Completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3 and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Identify themes of social justice/social injustice in Latinx and Latin American cinema;
  2. Articulate the way that Latinx and Latin American film is a form of art that reflects and produces social relations; and 
  3. Perform a close reading of a film scene in writing and orally.
