BIOL 476 - General Endocrinology Units: 3 A broad study of endocrinology from both an anatomical and physiological perspective including synthesis, distribution, and regulation of hormones in human and animal endocrine systems, as well as the pathophysiology of endocrine disorders.
Prerequisites: BIOL 370 with a grade of C- or better. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall ONLY
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- describe the function of endocrine organs, metabolism of their hormones, and their effects on the physiology;
- explain the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of diseases of the pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, pancreas, testes, and ovary;
- connect concepts within endocrinology with other science disciplines (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics) and with physiological principles, and apply these concepts to everyday life;
- obtain, evaluate, and apply relevant information from the scientific literature in endocrinology as it pertains to the topics covered in class.
