CIVE 350 - Geotechnical Engineering


Units: 3
Subsurface stresses, settlement analysis, site investigation and filed methods, shallow and deep foundations, slope stability, and retaining wall design.

Prerequisites: ENGR 220
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Analyze soil particle size distribution and soil’s weight-volume relationships.
  2. Recommend shear strength parameters based on experimental and in situ conditions.
  3. Apply soil mechanics concepts to design or evaluate foundations and retaining walls.
  4. Be able to design solutions to real-world problems using modern engineering techniques, skills, and tools.
