KIN 370 - US Twentieth Century Women’s Sport Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-UD-C; Diversity Examines the social and political issues in women’s sport in US twentieth century history. Gender constructions and tensions as they intersect with race, ethnicity, class, and sexuality are explored.
Strongly Recommended Preparation: Upper division status (greater than 60 earned semester units) and completion of lower division Area C requirements. Prerequisites: Completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3 and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Analyze changing issues and attitudes toward female athletic participation throughout the 20th century.
- Compare and contrast various constructions and understandings of athletic womanhood within different communities based on race, ethnicity, class, and sexuality throughout the 20th century.
- Discuss how women (individually and collectively) resisted ideological and structural constraints to their athletic involvement throughout the 20th century.
