GEOG 225 - Fundamentals of GIS


Units: 3
Fundamentals of location-related information management, manipulation, and display. Usage of ArcGIS software in business; education; and physical, social and life sciences. Special topics on GIS layer formats, elementary spatial analysis techniques, and the manipulation of spatially explicit information.

Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Acquire basic working knowledge of GIS software and its application in spatial analysis.
  2. Initiate, complete, and communicate a geographic research project using GIS technology.
  3. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of GIS tools to create maps for spatial analysis purposes and effectively convey the intended information.
  4. Apply mathematical concepts, including statistical methods, to data to be used in geospatial analysis.
