REC 340 - Sustainable Facilities, Parks and Open Space Units: 3; Breadth Area: Sustainability Overlay Principles and procedures for planning, design, operation, care and management of sustainable facilities, parks, open spaces and other areas. Examining economic, social, and environmental impacts of sustainable areas.
Strongly Recommended Preparation: HOS 100 and REC 100. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Breadth Area(s) Satisfied: Overlay - Sustainability Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Identify of principles and procedures for planning and designing leisure services, resources, areas and facilities with environmental, economic and social implications.
- Identify principles and procedures related operation and care of resources, areas, and facilities.
- Demonstrate knowledge of current principles and procedures related to planning, designing, and operating sustainable facilities.
Sustainability Overlay Learning Outcomes
- identify the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability, either in general or in relation to a specific problem;
- analyze interactions between human activities and natural systems;
- describe key threats to environmental sustainability; and
- explain how individual and societal choices affect prospects for sustainability at the local, regional, and/or global levels.
