KIN 405 - Theories of Teaching Secondary Physical Education Curriculum Units: 3 Introduce prospective physical education teachers to recent trends and development in the delivery of physical education programs at the secondary level. Educational theories and approaches to teaching, effective instructional strategies, and activities appropriate for adolescents.
Prerequisites: B.S. Kinesiology major and KIN 302. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Identify relevant goals and trends of secondary school physical education curricula and instruction.
- Demonstrate an understanding of theories and models in and around physical education programs.
- Identify and select appropriate content for secondary school-age youth.
- Demonstrate the use of selected effective teaching skills while teaching small groups of peers.
- Identify the various benefits associated with physical activity for secondary school-aged youth.
