ENGL 656 - Pedagogical Grammar


Units: 4
Examination of grammar needed by ESL students to develop their analytical and critical thinking skills, comprehension of ESL students’ problems and challenges with learning grammar, and investigation of strategies, methods and approaches to teaching grammar effectively to ESL students.

Prerequisites: Post-baccalaureate standing.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Analyze grammar errors made by ESL learners.
  2. Present approaches, strategies and methods for teaching grammar to ESL learners, and for helping ESL learners to correct grammar errors effectively.
  3. Display how to implement teaching approaches, strategies and methods in the ESL classroom.
  4. Evaluate the results of implementing instructional methodology in the ESL classroom.
  5. Relate theory of second language acquisition to teaching grammar to ESL learners.
