Theories and principles of nutrients, basic diet, weight management, exercise demands, training principles, fitness development and effective nutritional practices.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Delineate the theories, concepts, and principles that underpin nutrition and sports performance
  2. Apply the scientific method to nutritional claims made for sports performance and weight-loss programs
  3. Use the principles of evidence-based practice to design nutritional plans for sports performance and long-term health and fitness
  4. Appreciate the ethical considerations and limitations around performance-enhancing drugs, alcohol, drug use, and nutritional supplements
  5. Identify the importance of Carbohydrate, Protein, Fat ingestion, and Macronutrients to sports performance
  6. Explain the importance of fueling, hydration and temperature regulation to physical activity
  7. Understand how to assess nutritional status using scientific rigor, accepted standards for testing human subjects and using that data to develop interventions
  8. Identify the importance of nutrition before, during, and after physical activity.

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of scientific theories, concepts, and data about the life sciences;
  2. demonstrate an understanding of scientific practices, including the scientific method; and
