HIST 331 - The Barbarians

Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-UD-C
To ca. 1000 C.E. The Franks, Visigoths, Ostrogoths, Angles, Saxons, and the Vandals. Early movements/cultures/religions of these non-Roman peoples.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: Upper division status (greater than 60 earned semester units) and completion of lower division Area C requirements.
Prerequisites: Completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3 and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Be proficient in the use of digital tools for historical research
Work collaboratively in team-based projects
Evaluate the historical data available and what it can and cannot tell us
Assess the arguments historians have made about non-Roman people
Discuss the theme of diversity and migration in the ancient world
Write and speak clearly and persuasively about historical topic of barbarians.
