MUS 218B - Intermediate Keyboard II


Units: 1
Intermediate keyboard skills for music majors. 

Prerequisites: MUS 218A.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Perform all major and minor scales and arpeggios, 2 octaves, hand together. Perform chord progressions in multiple major and minor keys.
  2. Perform major triads and inversions.
  3. Provide one- and two-hand harmonizations to simple melodies.
  4. Transpose simple melodies with accompaniment.
  5. Improve reading and sight-reading abilities at the keyboard. 
  6. Prepare repertoire for public performance in front of peers and instructor.
  7. Improvise appropriately leveled patterns within clearly defined parameters.
  8. Perform introductory exercises in open-score and SATB/hymn formats.
  9. Perform introductory excerpts in chordal and instrumental accompanying.
  10. Perform introductory excerpts for transposing instruments
