REC 359 - Therapeutic Environmental Recreation


Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-E
Introduction to therapeutic environmental recreation within a human ecological framework, defined as the systems of interactions between people and the environment. Examination of societal, intellectual, recreation applications that have direct application to ethical decisions in human ecology across lifespan.

Repeatability: May be repeated for a maximum of 6 units total.
Possible Instructional Methods: Hybrid Only.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Examine the basic tenets and historical influences in therapeutic environmental recreation.
  2. Develop an appreciation of the contribution and impact of social and economic impacts of recreation therapy.
  3. Analyze the role of government, non‐profit and private management agencies in recreation settings.
  4. Review characteristics and responsibilities associated with the professional careers of recreation.
  5. Explore first‐hand recreation opportunities, management issues, and therapeutic programs.
