EPSY 629 - Psychopharmacology for Children and Adolescents


Units: 2
This course provides mental health professionals with current information about the use of medications for psychiatric disorders for children and adolescents. It is also mandated by the Board of Behavioral Sciences. It will not teach an individual what they might need to know if they were licensed to prescribe medications.

Prerequisites: Admission to M.S. Counseling program.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Ethical practice for PPS per CAPR- student will be able to explore the ethics and the clinical issues surrounding the use of medication for psychiatric disorders (PLO).
  2. Demonstrate expertise and integration of ideas, methods, theory, and practice in specialized discipline of study (ILO)
  3. Along with the clinical counseling and family therapy skill students will be able to integrate knowledge from the psychiatric perspective into their helping strategies.
