BAN 675 - Text Mining and Social Media Analytics


Units: 3
Covers basic natural language processing techniques, document representation, text categorization, sentiment analysis, topic modeling, text visualization, and social media analytics.

Prerequisites: All of: BAN 601, BAN 602, BAN 620.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Represent unstructured text documents in a way that supports text mining algorithms.
  2. Apply multiple algorithms to classify text documents into different categories.
  3. Extract thematic structures and subjective information from text documents and generate visual representation using mathematical and programming tools.
  4. Utilize text mining techniques and social network characteristic measures to perform social influence analysis and social media analysis.
