HIST 381 - US Political History Units: 3 Colonies, revolution and independence; changing concepts of democracy, rights, and citizenship; the Constitution; development of American party systems; politics of slavery and anti-slavery; post-Civil War revolutions; corruption and reform; growth of the state; political movements.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Understand the nature of historical inquiry;
- Understand, evaluate and critique historical arguments;
- Understand the influences and development of the American political system through history;
- Understand major crises in American political history;
- Understand historical development of citizenship and American democratic government;
- Understand significance of class, race, gender in formation of American political ideas.
