GEOG 355 - Asia Pacific Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-UD-D Physical resources, human land use, economic systems, and political patterns in the Asia Pacific region; historical footprints and modern transformation; economic cooperation and geo-political realignment; demographic transition and environmental challenges.
Strongly Recommended Preparation: Upper division status (greater than 60 earned semester units) and completion of lower division Area D1-3 requirements. Prerequisites: Completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3 and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better. Equivalent Quarter Course: GEOG 3550. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - locate and identify pertinent physical, economic, urban, and political systems in the Asia Pacific region;
- apply mapping and geospatial technologies to analyze geographic issues in the Asia Pacific region;
- describe and explain the cultural and geographical complexity of Asia Pacific as an economic organization and political region;
- critically discuss economic development, demographic transition and environmental issues that are critical to the future of the region.
UD-D. Upper-division Social Sciences Learning Outcomes - analyze how power and social identity affect social outcomes for different cultural and economic groups using methods of social science inquiry and vocabulary appropriate to those methods;
