PHYS 105 - How Things Work

A descriptive exploration of phenomena you observe every day. The underlying universal physical principles that govern how things behave are revealed by examining a variety of examples such as roller coasters, microwaves, cell phones, and radios.

Equivalent Quarter Course: PHYS 1500.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

demonstrate broad knowledge of the basic laws of physics by exploring real world examples;
demonstrate the ability to solve physical problems using mathematical reasoning, read and accurately interpret data presented in various graphical representations, and carry out order-of-magnitude estimates of physical effects;
use the scientific method to explore how different “things” work.

Demonstrate knowledge of scientific theories, concepts, and data about the physical sciences;
demonstrate an understanding of scientific practices, including the scientific method; and
