KIN 301 - Applied Musculoskeletal Anatomy


Units: 3
Skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems and their roles in determining movement in applied settings, such as daily living, work, physical activity, and rehabilitation. Bone structure, bony landmarks, muscle attachments, muscle actions and resulting motions, and body planes and axes.

Prerequisites: B.S. Kinesiology major, BIOL 270, BIOL 271.
Equivalent Quarter Course: KIN 3305.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Recall and explain planes of motion, range of motion of major joints of the body.
  2. Recall, identify, compare and contrast structure of bone tendon, ligament, muscle and neural system.
  3. Recall and identify skeletal muscle names, attachments, innervations and functions at all major joints.
  4. Compare and contrast the structure and function relationship of each joint
  5. Explain and model line of pull and muscles grouped by function.
  6. Apply the knowledge of muscle function to basic movements, exercises and rehabilitation techniques.
