HOS 300 - Marketing in Hospitality, Recreation, Recreation Therapy, and Tourism


Units: 3
Marketing principles in the fields of hospitality, recreation, recreation therapy and tourism management. Emphasis on the interaction of marketing activities and the development of marketing strategies, including the use of social media and destination marketing.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: HOS 100 and REC 100.
Equivalent Quarter Course: HOS 4520.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. To relate to the language of hospitality, leisure and tourism marketing
  2. To apply marketing principles to the field of hospitality, leisure and tourism management
  3. To explain how marketing activities interact in the development of marketing strategies for hospitality, leisure and tourism businesses
  4. To recognize how other various professional functions (e.g. human resources, finance, etc.) in a hospitality, leisure and/or tourism firm fit in with the marketing function
  5. To evaluate destination marketing
  6. To explain research procedures such as survey formulation, data collection, and analysis
  7. To explain how a marketing plan is formulated and applied
  8. To assess the role and applications of social media in the field
