SLHS 606 - Augmentative and Alternative Communication Units: 3 Principles of assessment and intervention in augmentative/alternative communication for children and adults with complex communication needs. Includes hands-on experience with software and hardware. Open to professionals in relevant fields with instructor permission.
Prerequisites: Admission to M.S. Speech-Language Pathology program. Equivalent Quarter Course: SPPA 6070. Possible Instructional Methods: Hybrid Only. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Demonstrate knowledge of the nature and variety of communication disorders that require Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
- Demonstrate knowledge of principles and methods of assessment and intervention in the area of Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
- Demonstrate skills in the area of delivery of services to culturally and linguistically diverse populations that use AAC to communicate.
- Demonstrate fluency with a range of software and hardware used in Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
- Demonstrate knowledge of processes used in research and the integration of research principles into evidence-based clinical practice in the area of Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
- Demonstrate knowledge of contemporary professional issues in Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
- Demonstrate (successful use of) oral and written or other forms of communication in the area of Augmentative and Alternative Communication.
