MUS 238 - Music Education Laboratory Ensemble


Units: 1
Designed for music majors. Ensemble focused on performance on non-primary instruments, with an emphasis on performing elementary level repertoire suitable for school ensemble settings. Does not satisfy chamber ensemble requirement.

Credit Restrictions: May not be used to satisfy chamber ensemble requirement for BA in music.
Repeatability: May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 4 units.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Perform on a non-primary musical instrument in an authentic ensemble setting, designed to replicate an elementary or middle school band or orchestra.
  2. Perform elementary instrumental repertoire. Implement knowledge from instrumental techniques classes (MUS 231, 232, 233, 234) into a heterogeneous performance setting.
  3. Deepen knowledge of instrumental music pedagogy as part of preparing for teaching instrumental music in K-12 schools
