EPSY 652 - Gender, Identity, & Sexuality: Development & Challenges Across the Lifespan


Units: 1-3
Social construction of gender and sexuality development and its influence on lifespan identity. Respect and understand gender identity spectrum and sexual fluidity. Integrates cultural, spiritual, physical ability, chronic illness, SES, and social/institutional privilege influences on diagnoses and healthcare service access.

Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. To summarize the roles and activities of sex therapists.
  2. To recognize sexual problems in your client.
  3. To identify and apply appropriate assessment techniques for working with clients with sexual problems.
  4. To summarize the treatment techniques for sexual problems.
  5. To analyze how personal values related to sexuality affect the therapeutic process.
  6. To review how clients from diverse cultural and social backgrounds view sexuality and gender.
  7. To practice a professional approach to the wide variety of sexual behaviors, attitudes, and values you are likely to encounter in your client population, regardless of your own sexual values.
