EPSY 644 - Pre-Practicum Microcounseling Skills in Relational Practice II


Units: 2
Development of the counselor’s ability to influence others.  Use of brief videotaped counseling sessions (“microcounseling”).  Students will role-play to observe, analyze, and evaluate techniques of counseling. 

Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Important intermediate skills in counseling.
  2. Intermediate skills & techniques related to develop the therapeutic relationship in counseling.
  3. How to apply intermediate skills & techniques to working with culturally diverse clients.
  4. Demonstrate facilitating communication and professional, collaborative relationships in psychotherapy settings.
  5. Demonstrate the common problems and patterns of problematic interactions clients bring to therapy.
  6. Demonstrate integrating strategies to work with clients of diverse cultures
  7. Demonstrate applying an Equity, Diversity, and Social Justice model of service delivery.
