EPSY 643 - Family Therapy


Units: 3
Discussion and activities in psychotherapeutic techniques.  Theory and research dealing with family interaction and communication.  Diagnostic and intervention methods for dysfunctional family systems.

Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Important major psychotherapy theories focusing on treatment of families.
  2. Basic skills & techniques related to the major family psychotherapy theories.
  3. How to apply these theories, skills & techniques to working with culturally diverse families;&nbsp.
  4. Demonstrate facilitating communication and professional, collaborative relationships in psychotherapy settings.
  5. Demonstrate common problems and patterns of problematic interactions families bring to therapy.
  6. Demonstrate integrating strategies to work with families of diverse cultures.
  7. Demonstrate applying an Equity, Diversity, and Social Justice model of service delivery.
