GEOL 650 - Professional Certification Preparation


Units: 3
Content and strategies for successful completion of the requirements for the California Professional Geologist Certification. Course covers California geology, public health and safety, geologic hazards with an emphasis on seismic hazards, and California specific regulations.

Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Understand the requirements for certification as a California Professional Geologist.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of the topics emphasized on the exam, including field investigations, structural geology, and map interpretation, hydrogeology, engineering geology, economic geology, geomorphology, stratigraphy/sedimentology/paleontology, mineralogy/petrology/geochemistry and ethics.
