HIST 690 - Independent Study


Units: 1-4
Individual or small group work with faculty member on specific topic not offered as regular coursework according to the catalog. May substitute for electives in certain circumstances, with approval.

Prerequisites: Department consent and minimum 3.0 GPA.
Equivalent Quarter Course: HIST 6900.
Repeatability: May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 8 units when content varies.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Develop advanced knowledge in a region and era of world history, or a particular school of thought or approach to conducting historical work.
  2. Analyze historical argument, and the evolution of historical literature on the topic in question.
  3. Identify the role of historiography in shaping our understanding of a historical era or topic.
  4. Produce advanced and original analysis of the topic based on individual research and analysis of secondary literature, and observe the standards of academic integrity.
  5. Identify and orally present original analysis on the topic.
