MLL 335 - Classifiers in American Sign Language


Units: 3
Linguistic components that deal with American Sign Language (ASL) Classifiers. Identifying different ASL classifiers and appropriate use for certain types of ASL classifiers.  Aspects of ASL classifiers such as non-manual signals and storytelling.

Prerequisites: MLL 332.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Learn different types of ASL classifiers and its functions.
  2. Visualize ASL classifiers from written and picture stories.
  3. Expand his/her ASL classifiers within same content of the story.
  4. Increase expressive and receptive ASL classifier skills.
  5. Understand ASL classifiers in the linguistic standpoint.
  6. Demonstrate fluency in ASL classifier productions, non-manual signals (NMS), and storytelling.
  7. Recognize and appreciate differences in classifier productions in style from ethically and racially diverse deaf individuals.
